I’m a rule follower. Sometimes that puts me in an awkward position. That sometimes is right now.
The latest newsletter from Teachers Pay Teachers asked sellers to keep freebies under 10 pages and to consider pricing items that are larger. I have two items that are currently free and larger than 10 pages.
One is my Compound Word Packet. I made the packet free and have similar packets for Multiple Meaning Words, Prefixes, and other skills. I thought giving one away was the right thing to do so people could decide to buy others if it is really what they want.
I did the same thing with my task cards. I made one set of free task cards for Identifying Fractions. That let’s you know what you’ll be getting if you decide to buy my other task cards.
Here is where my conflict comes in and I’m not sure what to do.
I’ve linked posts about these freebies to Classroom Freebies Manic Mondays where they ask for the link to be to a “forever freebie”.
I’m not sure what to do. So, in the meantime, get downloading. Maybe I should make the freebies smaller. Maybe I should leave them up. Maybe… I don’t know. But, if you haven’t downloaded them, now is the time.
I like giving things away for free. I know we have limited resources as teachers and we don’t always have money to spend. When I do spend money, I really want to know what I’m getting. On the other hand, TPT and sellers feel that giving away too much can hurt other people’s sales. My intention with freebies is not to harm anyone. It may take me a while to figure out what is right.
What are your thoughts?

I would say to do an update on your freebie post that says something like," Due to recent TpT changes, this packet is now priced. However, if you email me directly, I will email them to you for free." That way you honor your original post as well as comply with TpT.

Thank you so much for these freebies! I just downloaded the compound words and can't wait to use it. Very cute!
I think Diane has a good idea. I don't know if you can go back and edit the post on Classroom Freebies, but you could at least leave a comment explaining what to do.
Don't Let the Teacher Stay Up Late

Diane, that is a good suggestion. Or just leave them up as is, and make future listings smaller. It didn't say to take down ALL your freebies, just keep the new guidelines in mind. I think you'll be okay. You have good products and that's what matters. :^D

I have been wondering the same thing… I too am normally a rule follower. Most of my freebies are 6 pages or less, but I do have a few that are longer. I decided that I will keep them free for now, but for all future postings I will follow that rule. Glad to know that I am not alone in wondering about this:)
