I realized today that putting up bulletin board paper and borders is like having an argument:
You don’t like doing it, but sometimes it is unavoidable.
Switching classrooms is stressful because I don’t know what I want to put on my bulletin boards, or where they are going to go. I used to leave mine up and now I have so much more work!
You get hyper focused on the little details.
I spend so much time adjusting the straightness millimeter by millimeter. I also get so frustrated when I realize that the border I’m using doesn’t have matching ends. (My swirl bulletin board doesn’t continue the swirl on the next piece and it felt like the end of the world as I put it end to end and it didn’t match.)
If you take a step back and breathe you realize it isn’t as bad as you think it is.
I’m sitting at my desk as I write this and I can’t see the marks from when the stapler messed up. I can’t tell the swirls don’t match up. Everything looks straight. Sigh. Breathe.
It’s all a matter of opinion.
I spend so much time trying to figure what color border will look good, but really, there is no right answer.
Even though you know the right thing to do, you forget in the heat of the moment.
I know basic bulletin board tips. I could probably write a post about them. Use push pins to put things up before stapling so its easy to adjust. Plan ahead and make sure you have what you need in your hand before you start. Use a good stapler. Fold the edges instead of cutting so you can reuse the border in the future. Don’t use the schools paper because its cheap and see through and will frustrate you.
It’s helpful to seek the advice of others.
Sometimes you just have to walk away and get someone else’s perspective.
You make up new words.
Today my friend helping observed that I was flustered. I told her I was flustrated when the stapler doesn’t work and felt like tossing it across the room. I think frustrated and flustered just had a kid. So she let me borrow hers. By the way, she has a great TPT store you should check out. She deserves some business after helping to soothe me after my argument with my bulletin boards.
If you are truly committed to your relationship, you can survive any argument.
I’m alive. I’m OK. My bulletin boards and I will be together for a long time.
You get lost in the argument and when you realize how much time has passed, you realize it’s time to stop.
I’m working on adding frames is various shades as a follow up to my basic color and bright color frames. At this moment you can find shades of blue, green and pink in my TN and TPT stores. |
