Bite size, manageable pieces
As an intervention teacher this year, I was given groups of kids that were struggling with a skill. Before I’d start, I’d know that that I needed to break the skill down into bite size manageable pieces. That was the inspiration for this packet.
I designed this packet for a group of first graders that were struggling to memorize Addition Facts to 10.
I wanted to break the goal down into small manageable chunks. To memorize addition facts to 10, there are 35 facts (and their turn around facts). I broke it down into four levels. Each level has flash cards that can be used with three games. There is a worksheet / quiz for each level as well.
The first level just included plus 0. This created an immediately positive situation for the kiddos. They’d been struggling, and suddenly they came to my room and it was easy. This gave them the confidence boost they needed to learn the rest of the facts.
This packet includes a goal sheet with all 35 facts. One goal sheet has answers. One doesn’t. I used them to send home for practice. There is also a certificate to give to the students once they memorize their facts.
I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine did.
