I’m teaching summer school for a couple weeks, but I’m not going to let that get in the way of enjoying summer break. Thankfully, it is a short teaching day. I want to enjoy as much of this vacation at home as possible.
Today after saying goodbye to the kiddos, my husband and I headed through wine country to Lake Hennessey to go kayaking. We had a wonderful afternoon.
Lake Hennessey doesn’t allow swimming or motor boats so it was very peaceful.
We came upon some geese and goslings as we were kayaking. If you look closely at the photo above, you can see them swimming near the reeds.
One of the goslings was lagging behind so I was able to zoom in and get a close up. I think the sound of the zoom startled him. He started calling out to mom and trying to swim faster.
Such a cute little sound.
It was such a nice day with no wind, we could just float and relax in the middle of the lake.
These birds are sitting on the buoys that keep people away from where the lake water goes to become drinking water. I’m not sure what kind of birds they are, but they made a point of turning their back to us so they will always be known as the Stuck Up Birds to me.
I love that we have a tandem kayak and can take turns paddling or paddle together.
He would paddle quietly to get us close to birds so I could snap pictures.
I’m especially proud that I’ve become MacGyver.
I’ve attached my water proof camera to a bungee cord that snaps onto the kayak so I can hand the camera to my husband without worrying about dropping it in the lake. The bungee cord was actually the kind they give you at a casino to attach to the player club card.
I enjoyed seeing the Blue Heron at the lake. It amazes me how big they are!
When we were done kayaking, we had a beautiful drive home through Silverado Trail passed wineries.
We may not be going away for vacation, but we will certainly enjoy all that home has to offer.
What do you do to vacation at home?
GREAT pictures!!!!
