Today I was so lucky to have my husband come help me in my classroom. I knew he would do a great job fixing this filing cabinet:
The filing cabinet in my room was three colors with pink random spots and streaks.
He prepped the surface by sanding and then spray painted it with a color I chose called Satin Lagoon. (It looks a lot like the color we painted our bedroom this weekend called Mermaid.) I love it.
Once I figure out what will go in the drawers, I make cute labels. The stickers you see below have a magnet attached to the back. I wouldn’t mess up the beautiful paint job.
While he was there he painted my trash can and my tool organizer and helped me hang up my bulletin board paper. I also have this giant internet box for my wing of the school with ugly pipes. I pulled out some of my ocean stuff and he did this to hide the pipes for me. Pretty cute huh?
Don’t worry. He wasn’t the only one working. You’ll see some of my results another day.
– What grade do you teach?
I will be teaching 5th grade this year.
– What is the greatest advice you received during your 1st year of teaching?
Go home.
I was practically living in my classroom. The people that encouraged me to be human and go home were right!
– Do you have a checklist that you follow when preparing your classroom (include the checklist)?
I write a To Do list on my white board that grows and shrinks. That way, when my husband comes in to help he can see how much I have left to do and can be motivated to help me so I can head home as soon as possible.
– What are some must haves in your classroom that you cannot live without (ex. items, books, posters, management strategies)?
I need my clipboards. I have one that I use as a grade book. I also have one that I use for behavior and note taking when we leave the room. Just seeing me holding it makes my kids behave better.
– What is something that all teachers should have in their classroom?
