More Polka Dots and Something Personal

July 16, 2012 By Mercedes Hutchens 6 Comments

After making the freebie, my love of colors took over.  I made two products yesterday.  They are similar to what I had in my freebie, except that I decided on 8 rectangular frames per page instead of 6.  You can click on the pictures to check them out at my TPT store.

There are 16 heart jpgs for $2.

There are 20 jpgs of rectangular frames for $2.

The rest of this post is not teaching related.  Well, there is a brief mention.   If you read it, I think you’ll cut me some slack. 🙂

On July 16, 2011, I married the man I love.

We had a fun backyard wedding and an amazing honeymoon in Kauai.  We snorkeled, toured the coast in a helicopter, zip-lined, jumped into waterfall pools, kayaked, and more.  During our honeymoon, my husband said, “I think I’ve done everything on my bucket list.  I could die happy.”I smacked his arm, told him to take it back, and immediately started listing new things to put on his bucket list.

Less than 3 months later he was hospitalized.  A doctor told me he would never be the same.  I realized later that they wouldn’t tell me when I could take him home because they weren’t sure he’d be going home.  I remember praying and telling God he couldn’t make me a widow before my first anniversary.  I’m sure God is used to my bossy nature by now.  He listened.
My husband almost died, but he didn’t.  His body started shutting down and he’s had a long haul healing.  He had to learn to sit up and walk again.  He’s not 100%, but he will be.

As he was progressing through physical therapy, he started coming to school with me.  I told him sitting in the back of my class would be more interesting than watching TV at home.   Next thing I knew, he was helping all the kids and playing four square with them.

At the end of his first day he said, “Now I know why you come home so exhausted every day.”  Priceless.
This year was hard.  I was the kind of teacher that would go to school sick rather than call in a sub.  When someone you love needs you, your priorities changed.  I’m so thankful for the amazing teachers I work with that helped me and my students.
A few months ago his doctor said, “You had a 50/50 chance.  It’s clear you are in the good 50.”  Thank God.
I can’t tell you how happy I am to be able to wish my husband a happy first anniversary. There was a long time I didn’t’ think I would get that privilege.  I know every “Happy Anniversary” I say to him in our long future together will be more sincere than I ever imagined it could be.

Happy Anniversary, Chris!  I love you!

I’ve been playing around with some clipart and graphics and couldn’t resist using them to make his card.  These are all animals we’ve seen together. (Well, the jellyfish were dried up on the beach, but that is probably safer anyways. 🙂

Your story made me tear up because it hits very close to home. When you go through something like that, it makes your marriage stronger than most people's because you can truly appreciate every moment you have together. And it makes all the sweet moments in life so much sweeter. Happy anniversary and here's to many more! 🙂
