I’ve had some questions about how I make my clipart.
How I Make Clipart on my iPad
I bought an iPad app for $2.99 called Art Studio. There is a free Lite version. That is what I use to make my clipart. Click on the icon to visit the iTunes description.
I really think buying the app is the best tip I can give you. It is easy to use and if you remember to start with a transparent background, you’ll be able to email the PNG file to yourself. I then use Powerpoint to create the cover page.
I started out making my sea animals and fish. I tell all my students that you can draw anything if you just see the shapes inside them. If you look at that black and red fish I drew, you can tell it’s an oval, triangles, and rectangles basically.
My favorite ArtStudio tools are the pencil, paint bucket, and eraser. Oh, and the undo arrow. I love that undo arrow. I also love that I can zoom in and fix things pixel by pixel. It would take me 5 times as long to draw one of those fish with a pencil and I don’t’ think it would look as good. But being able to make unlimited mistakes and zoom in close, make it much easier.
My husband laughed at me the first day I was making clip art. I was laying on my side drawing on my iPad while looking at an image on my computer. He said I was cheating, but I don’t think it’s cheating to look at an orca while I draw an orca. I do think it’s cheating to look at someone’s clip art so I limit myself to photographs. I had tons of fun drawing the fish because I went through photos we took snorkeling. I never would have been able to imagine the angle the yellow and black fish, but had a great photo to look at.
If people want more tips on how to use the ArtStudio app, I can share them, but I really think you’ll get it once you download it. It’s like playing Draw Something. (I keep getting nudged in Draw Something, because I’ve doing all my drawing in ArtStudio.)
Thanks for all the compliments, I’m having lots of fun!
Thanks for the tip I am really wanting to learn how to make my own clip art.

I love the idea. What is the next step? Do I draw them to clip art size 1 x 1? Or do I draw them and somehow shrink them? I want to send my brother a sheet of clip art I design for his company. How do I get them all on one page to him so he can use them?
Thanks so much for your help.
Send me an email and I'll help you through it.

I'd love to know these tips too! I am a HORRIBLE artist, but would love to try. Is this the same way people make fonts?
Thanks,

This is just what I have been looking for. Do you use a stylus to draw or just your finger?

Oh my goodness, you just made my day/week and probably year. I love to doodle and in researching purchasing clipart for printables that I make, I stumbled on this post. I'm so excited, I already doodled a few borders, emailed them to myself and will make the next printable use the ones I created. This is exciting and I can certainly see how addicting it may become. You are wonderful to share this with the public! I am a new follower (via email)! Happy New Year!
Thank you so much! DO you have a stylus you recommend. Amazon is very overwhelming with choices
Hi,
Thanks so much for the info! I just bought it and I love it!! Can you please tell me which size you use to save your image for TpT? I’m so excited to give clip art a try!

I haven’t used the app in quite some time but I would choose the largest possible image. 🙂
