I used this video to start a conversation with my students about bullying.
We had a fantastic discussion about this video. I loved listening in and hearing the students reaction. They were laughing and wincing. One of the students asked, “So, if someone bullies us, we should beat them up?!?”
Isn’t that what a lot of parent’s suggest? My post yesterday about choosing not to be a victim wasn’t implying that you should bully someone back. Sometimes, though, people get pushed so far that they don’t see that there are other options.
We had a great discussion about this. We discussed which behaviors we saw that were considered bullying behavior. We discussed why the larger boy might be bullying. The class felt like it was out of boredom. We discussed the fact that the artist tried to ignore the bully but that didn’t work. We also spent time talking about the fact that the smaller boy would end up getting in trouble.
I told them that I don’t want to see them let someone bully them into getting themselves in trouble.
I shared this resource with them:
