This is my first year doing Math Journals and I’m loving it.
I set up the journals to have ten pages with Roman Numerals. I’m not sure what all ten pages will have since I’m new to this, but it’s been helpful to have them.
I Grading- I have a page where I can give them grades and make notes.
II and III – Table of Contents
IV- Scheduling: Students leave the room for various reasons during math and keep their days and times in this section.
Then we started using “regular” numbers. Sometimes we take notes. Sometimes we have a foldable.
I’m regretting the Roman Numeral Section just a bit. Mostly because everytime I tell them to turn to a page, someone raises their hand and asks if I mean a Roman Numeral Page. I told them that I’d say Roman Numeral if I meant Roman Numeral, but they just can’t let it go. I know they are being conscientious. I’ve started saying “regular old page 5” and I’m not a fan. Anyone have a suggestion for me?
Page 2 has notes about Exponents. Page 3 has our PEMDAS foldable |
I allow choice when it comes to colors. |
I blogged about PEMDAS here. You can find the foldable in my Order of Operations packet which is $2. You could also just have them fold the paper.
I thought foldables would be my favorite part of the math journal, but really I love having them take notes. They are so focused!
Do you use Math journals? Do you have tips for me?
